What Do You Know About Coffee?

What do you know about coffee? That you like (love) it. That it’s one of the first things you think about when you wake up in the morning. That your Triple, Venti, Half Sweet, Non-Fat, Caramel Macchiato waiting for you at the counter makes you glad you’re alive. That the world runs on…coffee.

There are a lot of things I know about coffee and how it makes me feel, my favorite ways to make it and favorite brands to purchase – but one thing I didn’t know about coffee is how integral it is to the Ethiopian culture.

The Water Wise Coffee Documentary

There’s a documentary about coffee, the Ethiopian culture and their water that is definitely worth watching. It’s called the Water Wise Coffee documentary aimed at raising awareness for what Water Wise Coffee is doing for this particular Ethiopian region.

I take for granted the fact that I wake up every morning, brew my Marley Coffee with fresh water right from the tap. I do it everyday. I do it without having to think about it. But that’s not always the case for Ethiopians in the Sidama coffee region. The clean rivers they knew so well as kids, have now been polluted as the result of coffee processing.

What is Water Wise Coffee doing about this? They are helping to clean up their rivers in a sustainable, innovative way that’s worth finding out about. It’s incredibly interesting. They share how coffee processing and a well taken care of environment can co-exist.

On the documentary you’ll see Rohan Marley, the founder of Marley Coffee, talking about where his inspiration came from. You’ll also see the faces of the Ethiopian people and hear them talk about how coffee is such a huge part of their culture. (Side note: I need to go here for so many reasons.)

Marley Coffee is one of the partners of Water Wise Coffee, which makes me even more excited to be starting off my mornings with them. Not only am I drinking coffee that tastes unlike any coffee I’ve had before and the creators behind the EcoCup, but they’re a company with some seriously big hearts, as well as big ideas for the future of our environment.

You can read more about Marley Coffee on my post here and watch the Water Wise Coffee Documentary here.

I’m not sure what the universe is trying to tell me, but Ethiopia keeps popping up in my life – from travel shows and documentaries to companies that care about this country. Interesting. Very interesting…
