Neutrals On Neutrals + Dealing with Wrinkles

I’m all for a pop of color in the fall and have been sharing quite a few outfits this season in red and burgundy, but I wanted to mix things up a bit today and talk neutrals on neutrals. It’s a look I’ve come to love.

I think pairing a neutral cardigan with a white button up shirt or white denim with a cream sweater seems a little unexpected, which is why I think I like it so much. A few years ago I would have never mixed cream and white, and now I can’t seem to get enough of it.

Unfortunately, this white button up shirt has been sitting in my closet far too long because it’s always been a pain to iron. Do you have any shirts like that? Shirts you love to wear, that feel great on, but are hard to iron and then wrinkle in an instant? Yep, that’s this shirt.

Now let me ask you another question – when  was the last time you used starch? If that seems like a weird question, stick with me for a minute.

For me personally, I haven’t used starch since I was ironing my husband’s Air Force uniforms while stationed in cold, cold Alaska. (Did I mention it was cold there?) His uniforms had to be perfectly crisp and wrinkle free and they had to stay that way throughout the day. Needless to say, we went through many bottles of starch through the month.

After he got out of the military, I stopped using starch. I didn’t see the point in using it for everyday use. Until now.

I had the chance to try Niagara┬« Spray Starch Plus Original and have no idea why I ever stopped using starch in the first place. It took me no time to iron my favorite white button up shirt! You know, the white button up shirt I used to dread ironing, so it just hung in my closet instead.

Using Niagra Spray Starch made ironing so much easier and gave my shirt a smooth, crisp finish. It simplified ironing for me, which I am all for anything making ironing a bit easier.

  1. This is a great outfit for Autumn! I definitely have blouses that aren’t worn often enough because they need to be ironed. Strangely enough though, I like to iron! I do use Niagara spray starch. It’ slight and works great. I’ve never seen the Lavender scented one….I’ll be looking for it.

  2. One tip is not to procrastinate when doing laundry- try not to let laundry pile up and as soon as laundry is washed and dried, hang up your clothes to reduce the amount of wrinkles

  3. My tip is to always use a laundry detergent made specifically to whiten whites every single time you wash them. If I slack off and miss a time or two and wash them with regular detergent they look more dingy

  4. Be sure to turn denim inside and zip up the zipper to avoid fading and having the zipper snag your other clothes.

  5. My tip is to not overcrowd the dryer and use wool dryer balls to have fewer wrinkles in your clothes.

  6. My tip is to get clothes out of the dryer as soon as it’s done to avoid too many wrinkles

  7. Sort clothes according to temperature, working from coolest to hottest. Iron silks and synthetics on low to medium heat (approximately 350┬░F), wool on medium to high, and cotton and linens at high temperatures (400┬░F to 425┬░F). Since the right temperature is critical, let the iron sit for a few minutes after you have adjusted the controls.

  8. MY LAUNDRY TIP IS TO WASH YOUR CLOTHES IN COLD WATER. IT HELPS THEM TO LAST LONGER.

  9. My tip is to keep all of your buttons on your shirts buttoned when washing them. This really works on my husband uniforms as it makes it easier to iron them and less likely to loose any buttons in the washer.

  10. my best laundry tip is to do it on a regular basis so it is not overwhelming. do not let it pile up too long.

  11. I always try to iron a few extra shirts to have them available in case there is a condiment disaster later.

  12. I find when I iron my clothing, I get better results when I use distilled water in my iron. I also make sure to use Niagara starch. It helps to hold my pleats and keeps my shirts crisp. Also, always empty the water out of the iron after it is shut off and cooled down.

  13. My biggest tip is to make sure to take your clothes out of the dryer and hang them as soon as possible so they aren’t wrinkly.

  14. If my kids get something on their clothes, if I try to get it out right away. It’s less likely to stain

  15. My tip is to take the clothes out of the dryer as soon as possible so you dont have as many wrinkles.

  16. My ironing tip is to make sure you are using the correct setting on your iron. I have ruined clothes by forgetting to change the setting.

  17. My tip is to do a laundry load every day so you always have clean clothes. I am terrible at ironing, so no tip on that!

  18. my tip is to shake out each price of clothing before putting it in the dryer. It really makes a difference.
