What’s one of the first things you do when you wake up in the morning? For me, it’s pouring that cup of coffee and maybe going for a second one, depending on how early it is and how tired I am. The next thing I know, it’s noon and I haven’t had any water to drink. My body just went 8 hours while sleeping without any water and then what do I do? Add coffee to my already dehydrated body! Smart Julie. Reaaalll smart.
I already knew I needed to start drinking more water. We all know that and I’m sure a lot of us don’t get as much as our bodies need. I struggle with horrible migraines and recently started drinking a ton more water. I’m happy to report, although I’m still getting them, they seem to be less frequent since I’ve been hydrating myself more.
Focusing on hydrating myself more throughout the day is great, but I’ve started reading about the benefits of drinking a glass of water first thing in the morning. When you think about it, it completely makes sense.
A few benefits of drinking water first thing in the morning:
- It helps you avoid health issues related to dehydration
- It helps reduce stomach acidity
- It fires up your metabolism by 24% for 90 minutes, which helps you lose weight
- It makes your skin glow and helps purge toxins from your body (try lemon water to help with this)
Reading about all of these benefits of drinking water first thing in the morning got me very excited and it’s now what I do first thing – before having my morning cup of coffee. I haven’t been doing it long enough to report on my personal success with it, but by the end of the month I’ll let you know if I’ve noticed any results from this one simple change.
Creating a more fabulous version of you can be as simple as changing one small habit – like drinking a glass of water first thing in the morning. Do you do this? Are you going to start? Join me in making this change and let me know at the end of the month if you’ve seen results.
