It’s almost time for Spring Break! If you’re going to the beach, don’t forget that your skin and hair will need some extra love in the midst of sunshine, sand, and salt. Here are the 5 beauty essentials that you need to pack for Spring Break at the beach! (And they make great additions to your beach bag as well!)
Essential #1: Tinted moisturizer
Spring break should be filled with warm sun rays and plenty of time outdoors. Although the sunshine feels radiant, it can actually damage your skin. In particular, your face can show discoloration, enlarged pores, or a leathery appearance when you spend too much time in the sun. How can you protect your face from the sunshine while still gaining a blissful tan? Try a tinted moisturizer.
A tinted moisturizer is packed with SPF and also offer a sheer coverage of makeup, allowing your skin to breathe in the midst of the beach heat. Plus, they are often water resistant. Don’t forget to apply sunscreen on your face even if you’re wearing a hat.
Suggested Products to pack:
- Jane Iredale Mineral BB Cream. Want to minimize your pores and wrinkles while you’re in your swimsuit? This is your best choice! It will brighten your skin and offers SPF 25 with 40 minutes of water resistance.
- Juice Beauty Tinted Mineral Moisturizer. This one protects you from the sun with SPF 30, tints your skin with natural minerals, and evens out your complexion with antioxidants.
Essential #2: Sunscreen
Protecting your face from the sun is essential, and so is protecting all of your skin. Since it’s Spring Break, it’s safe to assume that you’ll be spending time in your bathing suit, swimming in the water, or playing in the sand. Sticks, lotions, powders or sprays are all great sunscreen options so feel free to pick your preference.
Remember what your mother taught you: apply sunscreen before you head out into the sun. Also be sure to read the label to understand how often you should re-apply.
Suggested Products to pack:
- Jane Iredale powdered sunscreen. This powder is light and mess free. It’s SPF 30 and water resistant for 40 minutes. Use this option for your body and face, especially if you don’t like the oily nature of sunscreen lotions.
- Banana Boat Ultra Defense Sunscreen Stick. Sometimes sticks are just easier to lug around in your beach bag (no worries about a lotion spilling out of the tube!). This tiny stick is powerful against the sun with SPF 50.
Essential #3: SPF chapstick
Your face is protected, and so are your shoulders and belly. What about your lips? You know how easy it is for the salty water and whipping wind to dry out your lips. But don’t just grab a regular chapstick. While you’re lounging beside the waves, apply an SPF chapstick.
Suggested Products to pack:
- Banana Boat Sport Performance Sunscreen Lip Balm. Swim in the water or run on the sand for 80 minutes before needing to re-apply this SPF 50 chapstick.
Essential #4: Hair conditioner
The Spring Break sunshine and the fun in the water means you will sleep well on your vacation. But don’t get back to your room after a long day out and just plop on the bed. Reserve enough energy to care for your hair. Hop in the shower to wash away the salt, sand, and sweat. Wash your hair and gently massage your scalp to remove the built up sweat or salt.
Then use a conditioner. This will bring the shine back to your hair after the beach has dulled it. Take an extra minute to leave the condition on your locks for extra impact. (Hint: leave the conditioner in your hair for a few minutes while you shave your legs.)
Suggested Products to pack:
- Alba Botanica Drink It Up Coconut Milk Hawaiian Conditioner
- Avalon Organics Conditioner
- Dr Bronner’s Fair Trade & Organic Hair Creme Lavender Coconut
Essential #5: After sun lotion
There’s one more thing to do before your fall to bed in exhaustion after your awesome day at the beach: care for your skin post-sun exposure. Use a quality lotion to refresh your skin, whether you’ve been burned or not. Most of these include aloe vera, which refreshes and nourishes your dry skin. If you have been burned or sun kissed, these will help rejuvenate your skin to radiance!
Suggested Products to pack:
- Badger After Sun Balm. After a day in the sun and a refreshing shower, lather this balm onto your body to condition your parched skin.
- Alba Botanica After Sun Gel 98% Aloe Vera. This aloe lotion will leave your skin renewed after the abrasive sand, harsh salt, and vibrant sun has impacted your body. It’s also great for razor burn or as after shave!
Fill your beach bag with all of the essentials: water, snacks, sunscreen, and SPF chapstick too! A book or camera are great additions too. When you’re back in your room, don’t forget to care for your skin and hair with nourishing products after a cleansing shower.
