Most of you know how great it feels to walk into your office or classroom and sit down at a desk that is organized and tidy, just waiting for a productive day. You want a workspace that works for you, not against you, and getting that workspace organized is one surefire way to make sure it does just that.
Am I painting a vivid picture for you here? There are a bunch of ways for your office to get dirty, really dirty, and germs can spread around an office quicker than watercooler gossip. Germs and papers, papers and germs – it’s never ending, right? But getting these two things as under control as possible is key to a successful work week.
Here are just a few reasons why a clean workspace is very important.
The Importance of a Clean Workspace
Fewer sick days
Although sick days will find you one way or another (because, well kids do get sick), keeping your workspace clean can help. Keeping your space dusted and wiped down, plus remembering to wash your hands properly, can definitely help a great deal. Extra dust is known to lead to headaches, fatigue, difficulty breathing and an overall lack of motivation.
I’ve been working with CuVerro®, which manufactures antimicrobial copper that continuously kills bacteria*, on raising our awareness of just how dirty our environments around us can get and how copper can help. Copper is a proven surface that has the ability to kill bacteria and create healthier environments you care about – whether that’s your home, hospital, day care facility or fitness center.
You can see just how gross my cell phone was in my post here. That was fun to find out. 😛 Yeah, #EWW. For more surface test videos…check out CleanAsCopper.com!
Most recently, I tested out my laptop since I work on it several hours a day. (And I often go from working on it to reaching over for a snack because…well, popcorn.)
Without a doubt, keeping your workspace cleaner reduces stress. You’re able to find things quicker. You can think clearer. You are more productive, and being more productive often leads to improving your bottom line which leads to more financial stability. When we tackle one thing head-on that bothers us, day in and day out, it’s amazing what other benefits we reap because of it. It can lead to so many other amazing things in life. All because we cleaned up our workspace.
It Makes a Good Impression
You Feel a Sense of Satisfaction
There is something very satisfying about walking into a space that’s just been cleaned or that you left clean from the day before. It’s a completely different feeling from the one you get walking into a workspace that you left a disaster. Working in a clean space gives you improved energy because the space is appreciated. Have you read the book The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up? It’s the same concept she shares in her book. If you appreciate the space, it’ll appreciate you back. She even goes as far as to talk to her socks. To each their own, right?
What does your workspace look like right now? Is it clean or could it use some help? What do you feel like when you walk in?
If you were to test some of the surfaces in your workspace, like I did on my laptop, what do you think the results would look like? I would love to hear what you think some of the dirtiest areas of your home or workspace are.
