Has there ever been a time, where you’ve looked around your home…no one was there, you were all alone in the quiet. As you look around, you see a lot of pleasing things. You have a great life. You feel loved, supported, and happy.
But in that moment when you look around, you wonder to yourself if there’s more…
You’re interrupted by your kids who bounce in the rooms at full speed, your husband turns the door knob and opens the door. He’s home from work. You get up to greet him…or tell your kids to settle down.
And in that instant, that brief moment, your thought is gone.
You go on through your life and maybe at some other point, you look around and think again, “Is there more out there?”
Maybe there is and the thought is exhilarating and exciting, but fleeting.
When push comes to shove, you’re comfortable. So you put the thoughts aside, and you go through life, sometimes wondering…if there’s more.
Hi! I’m Sarah and I blog over at SarahTitus.com. I have a great life…like you. I have a 2 story home with a 3 car garage. It has granite countertops and a fireplace, and a master closet the size of a bedroom. My 5 bedroom, 3 bath home is perfect. I have a nice $30,000 car that I owe nothing on. In fact, I have no debt. I have two kids, a boy and a girl. A rambunctious pair like any other. Oh yeah, and I’m a single mom! Did I mention that 5 years ago, I was living in a homeless shelter after my ex-husband abandoned us?
After he left us, my first and only thought was, “How in the world can I continue to stay home with my kids?” I had been a stay-at-home-mom all their life. And tragedy strikes and everything is gone in an instant. The end of a 14 year marriage. The end of a secure income. The end of life as I knew it.
I had prided myself on the fact that something like that could never happen to ME. I was a great wife. Well known in my church. I was a good person…but none of that mattered the day he left. His stuff was gone and I was left alone, for the first time in my life with two small kids in my arms.
You know, it doesn’t really matter where you come from.
You could come from a prestigious family, or a train-wreck of a life like mine, and we end up in the same exact place, sitting there wondering if there’s more to life.
People kept asking me after he left, how I was able to live so well on so little. My income at the time was about $18,000/year, all of which, I made on my own from home. They had all these questions and in order to save time, I started a blog. It was password-protected, so only my friends could see it, but they kept coming more and more and more. They told their friends and it became this thing where I knew I was on to something.
For me, it became a way I could get my thoughts out there. I had so many emotions, up and down I went. For them, they were learning…I had incredible knowledge I didn’t realize people cared about. I had so much potential, so many gifts I wasn’t utilizing. So much wisdom I wasn’t sharing.
And then I did.
I took off the password and made my website live and people dove to it in the hoards. Within my first full month blogging for the public, I hit over 10,000 in traffic. Within 12 months, I was making over TEN THOUSAND dollars a month (yes, a month) from my blog and had nearly a million in traffic.
I can pretty much pinpoint it to the day when I looked around and wondered if there was more to life.
Instead of forgetting it, letting that thought pass me by, I seized it. I went for it, and I haven’t looked back since!
Maybe you’re at a point in your life where you wonder if there’s more. Maybe blogging isn’t the right path for you, maybe it’s something else. Maybe you want to go back to cooking school or learn how to be a professional ballerina. Whatever it is that YOU want to do, I think you should do it.
You could let fear win.
You could not go for your dreams.
You could sacrifice for your family the rest of your life…
OR…
You could go after your dreams and make your family all the better for it.
This month I’m on track to make $18,000 (what I used to make in one year!). If you would have asked me two years ago if it were possible I made even $5,000/month, I would have said, “No way!”
But here I stand, living proof that going after your dreams is worth fighting for.
If blogging sounds like it might be a great fit for you, I’d love to see you over on my site. I’ve taught many, many people how to blog and I’ve coached many women, including the wonderful and amazing Julie. But whatever it is that you want to do, whatever is your passion or dream, go for it.
I say this through tears, you have no idea where it can lead you. You have no idea where you’ll be in two years if you go for your dreams TODAY. Seize life. Make your dreams happen. Because you know what…you are the only one who can make your dreams come true. Don’t deprive the world of your talent, your love, your awesomeness. The world needs you! You may not be able to see it, but I can. I believe in you. I believe you can do it, if you’re willing to work hard to make your dreams come true.
Don’t sit there on the sidelines wondering…get involved. Do something.
